Laura Avery has been manager in charge of the Santa Monica Farmers Markets since September, 1982, one year after the Wednesday market first opened in July of 1981.  She has overseen the growth of the Farmers Market Program for the City of Santa Monica, where she is a full time employee, from one market consisting of 40 farmers to four markets which are attended by over 160 farmers and nearly one million customers per year.  Laura has served two terms on the California Direct Marketing Advisory Committee and she was President of the Board of Southland Farmers Market Association, a non-profit that represented the interests of farmers at farmers markets from 2003 – 2009.  She is passionate about educating consumers about the importance of supporting and preserving California’s small family farms and farmland.
