Peter Jon Pearce is a Product Designer specializing in high-performance design. By that, Pearce means design in which form, structure, process, and materials are fully integrated to create products of exceptional performance, material efficiency, long life, and enduring appearance. This strategy considers form as an agent of performance, and is regarded by Pearce to be a fundamental condition for the achievement of sustainability in the built environment.

Peter Pearce has applied this high-performance design strategy to furniture design and building system development, among other things. In 2002, Steelcase, Inc. began production on a new kind of general-purpose office chair of Pearce’s design, called Cachet, which embodies these high-performance design principles. Prior to that, using an innovative building system technology that he developed, Pearce was responsible for the design and manufacture of over 80 “state-of-the-art” architectural projects, including Biosphere 2, in Arizona; and Fremont Street, in Las Vegas.

Currently Peter Pearce is designing and developing a prototype residence called the Ecohouse. This residence embodies new integrated product systems, including structural, space enclosing, floor system, and climate management components; and it incorporates solar powered heating and cooling systems. This project comprises a housing paradigm shift, which is intended to further Pearce’s goal of contributing to the sustainability of the built environment through the implementation of a high-performance design ethic.
