Craig Nakano
Home Editor
Los Angeles Times
Los Angeles, CA
Craig Nakano became home editor at the Los Angeles Times in 2007 and oversees coverage of residential architecture, interior design, garden, and lifestyle trends. He manages dual platforms: a print section published every Saturday and an online report updated daily with design news, home profiles, and marketplace reports. Under his direction, web traffic for home and garden coverage on latimes.com doubled from 2007 to 2008, and it’s on track to triple from 2008 to 2009. Whereas the L.A. Times’ print readership is heavily skewed to Southern California, its online audience is global – with more readers outside California than inside. The result is a fundamental shift: Instead of covering the world for Southern California, Nakano and his staff are covering Southern California for the world.
Nakano join The Times in 1999 as an assistant travel editor and covered hotel openings and hotel design. Previously he was an editor at newspapers in San Francisco and Palm Springs.
