Daniel Pink, best-selling author and expert on innovation, competition, and the changing world of work will deliver the Keynote Presentation at Dwell on Design on Friday 26 June at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Mr. Pink’s topic is The Surprising Science of Motivation and Creativity:

How do we motivate ourselves and others to perform at a higher level?

In his provocative and entertaining presentation, Daniel Pink, bestselling author of A WHOLE NEW MIND, will answer those questions by exploring the surprising science of human motivation. Drawing on startling studies and real-life examples, he'll show that much of what we do in organizations actually crushes creativity.  He'll reveal the three elements at the heart of genuine, sustainable motivation. And he'll explain how to create a culture that allows creatives to do their best work.

You can attend Daniel Pink's Keynote address either by purchasing a Dwell Conference Plus ticket or, if you are verified Design Trade, you can purchase the add-on Friday Evening Special Event ticket. All of our ticket options are explained here.

About Daniel Pink

Dan’s most recent book, The Adventures of Johnny Bunko: The Last Career Guide You’ll Ever Need is told in Manga – the Japanese comic book format. It is a story of a young man who lands his first job out of college. He builds a career, illustrating as he does the six core lessons of finding, keeping, and flourishing in satisfying work.

His book, A Whole New Mind, charts the rise of right-brain thinking in modern economies and explains the six abilities individuals and organizations must master in an outsourced and automated world.   Reviewers have described the book as “an audacious and powerful work,” “a profound read,” “right on the money,” and “a miracle.”  A Whole New Mind is a New York Times and BusinessWeek best seller – and has been translated into 16 languages.

Dan’s first book, Free Agent Nation, about the rise of people working for themselves, was a Washington Post best seller and a business best seller in the U.S., Canada, and Japan.  Publishers Weekly said that the book “has become a cornerstone of employee-management relations.”

His articles on work, business, and technology appear in many newspapers and magazines—including The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, and Wired, where he is a Contributing Editor. Dan has provided analysis of business trends on CNN, CNBC, ABC, NPR, and other networks in the U.S. and abroad.

A free agent himself, Dan held his last real job in the White House, where he served from 1995 to 1997 as chief speechwriter to Vice President Al Gore.  He’s also worked as an aide to United States Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich, an economic policy staffer in the United States Senate, a legal researcher in India, and a latrine builder in Botswana.

He received a BA with honors in linguistics from Northwestern University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and a JD from Yale Law School.

Dan lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife and their three children. He is working on a new book that will be published in 2009.
